Vern B. McKee, 79, of Culver, passed away at 12:35AM on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Life Care Center in
Rochester, Indiana.
Vern was born on April 4, 1932 in Culver Indiana to Cortland and Trula (Griffith) McKee. After graduating fro Culver
Comm. High School in 1950, Vern was invited to try out for a spot on a Minor League Baseball team from Miami,
Oklahoma. On July 12, 1953 Vern married Miriam Lowry at the Hibbard Evangelical United Church of the Brethren.
Together they raised 3 girls.
Vern proudly served his country in the US Navy. After his honorable discharge, he returned to his family and Culver.
He began working at the State Exchange Bank. He eventually retired from the bank as the Maintenance Supervisor.
Vern loved to fish and even built his own pontoon boat. He was an avid sportsman, umpiring for many different high
school sports. He enjoyed taking his family on camping trips. He was a passionate golfer and loved taking yearly
trips to play golf in Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He and Miriam enjoyed spending winters in Zepher Hills,
Florida.
Vern is survived by his wife Miriam; daughters Cindy Riester of Plymouth, Indiana, Denise (David) Bohm of Mountain
View, Missouri, and Jana McKee of Plymouth, Indiana; grandchildren Brandon, Cort, Brooke, Kyle, and Tyler; and 7
great grandchildren as well as one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 6 sisters.
A time of sharing memories will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 4:30 - 7:00PM at the Odom Funeral Home
in Culver, IN. Rev. James Harper will officiate a memorial service at 7:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Marshall Co. Humane Society.
